Whitening is an application that does not harm your teeth when it is done under the supervision of a dentist by choosing the right medications.
For the reasons we have mentioned, the discoloration of teeth by applying chemical agents to discolored teeth is called whitening process. Whitening, which is performed for aesthetic purposes to lighten the tooth color, is the most protective method compared to other alternatives. The integrity of the tooth does not deteriorate during the procedure. With the teeth whitening method, your tooth color can be lightened by a few shades.

How is Teeth Whitening Done?
Oral hygiene should be ideal, there should be no stains and tartar formation on the tooth surfaces. Before the procedure, the teeth to be whitened should be examined and necessary treatments such as tartar cleaning and filling should be performed.
Whitening is done by activating the gel with heat or light. First of all, the external color change on the tooth surfaces and dental calculi, if any, are cleaned by periodontal methods. The tooth surfaces are polished. The initial photo is taken and the tone of the tooth is determined using the color scale. A protective gel is applied to the gums to prevent the whitening gel from touching, and the patient wears protective glasses. The whitening agent is applied to the tooth surfaces and activated for 20-30 minutes.
 For color changes with aging, 1 session is usually enough for fluorosis coloring. For color changes due to tetracycline, 3 or even 4 sessions may be required.

What are the Methods of Teeth Whitening?
Bleaching (bleaching): Carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide is used in this procedure performed by a dentist. Thanks to this process, whitening is achieved in teeth that undergo color change for internal (intrinsic) reasons. Very fast and effective results can be obtained in clinical conditions.
Tray Application: Teeth can be whitened by applying specially prepared dental devices coated with a gel containing substances used in Decontamination and worn at home for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Who is Teeth Whitening Not Applied To?
it is not applied to patients under the age of 16. In patients of this age, since the pulp chamber and the nerves of the tooth are at their widest dimensions, the pulp becomes irritated, extreme sensitivity occurs, and results in root canal treatment may occur.
 Whitening should not be applied to pregnant women, patients with hypersensitive teeth and pulled gums due to dental discomfort, people who are allergic to the whitening agent peroxide.

What Should Be Considered After Teeth Whitening?
Excessive cold or heat should be avoided for the first few days. Any kind of coloring food or drink is prohibited. Especially the first 3 days are very sensitive, but ideally 1 week–10 days should be paid attention to.
Products containing dark coloring such as cigarettes, tea, coffee, chocolate, red wine, cherry, caramel, tomato paste should not be used for 1 week after the end of the procedure. Otherwise, the resulting whiteness will return.
