Gastrit Bypass

Gastrit Bypass

WHAT IS GASTRIC BYPASS?

The Gastric Bypass technique, which has been used in obesity surgery for more than 20 years, is known as a method that reduces the absorption of carbohydrate and fatty foods by the intestines and entrance of the same into the blood stream, thus leading to weight loss.

HOW IS GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY PERFORMED?

In this surgery, almost 90% of the obese patient's stomach can be eliminated if necessary. The remaining 10% of the stomach is in the size of an average cup. The remaining small part of the stomach is connected a little ahead of the intestines, reducing the carbohydrate and fat taken from the food. After Gastric Bypass surgery, food taken orally gives a feeling of early satiety with the pressure created by the stomach wall in the small part of the stomach. Subsequently, the food passes from the stomach to the middle parts of the small intestine, and thanks to the gastric bypass procedure, weight gain is prevented by reducing the absorption of carbohydrates and fats from foods in the body.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF GASTRIC BYPASS?

In obese people, the stomach that has become smaller after gastric bypass surgery feels full with small amounts of food.  This makes it possible for patients to continue their lives in a healthy way by taking less food. Weight loss is achieved in morbidly obese people who feel full with less food and with the reduced absorption of calories by the intestines. However, for a fully successful Gastric Bypass surgery, the patients are expected to fully comply with the diet programs prepared for them our physicians after the operation.

WHY IS GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY OFFERED AS THE LAST OPTION?

Although the Gastric Bypass surgery has proven its success for more than 20 years, it is an irreversible surgical procedure. Therefore, this surgery, which is offered to patients as the last option, is decided following a comprehensive examination.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY?
