WHAT IS STOMACH BOTOX?

In stomach botox procedure, which is an endoscopic method for losing weight, botulinum toxin (botox) is injected into certain parts of the stomach. With the stomach botox method, which is relatively new compared to other bariatric treatment methods, the contraction of the stomach muscles is restricted, delaying the gastric emptying time and loss of appetite is ensured in the patient.

FOR WHOM IS STOMACH BOTOX SUITABLE?

Stomach botox is a method that can be applied to anyone who wants to lose weight, as long as there is no obstacle for stomach botox as determined by the necessary examination. However, stomach botox is not preferred by our physicians for the patients with a BMI value over 40 as it will not have a significant effect. At this point, people who are overweight but not obese at the level requiring surgical intervention and who want to lose weight can fall into the eligible patient category. In patients with stomach ulcers or gastritis, these conditions should be treated first and stomach botox should be performed as a second step.

IS THERE ANY SIDE EFFECT OF STOMACH BOTOX?

Botox is, indeed, widely used to reduce wrinkles on the skin and it has no dangerous side effect known. And stomach botox application has no significant side effect reported in the literature as it is a standard endoscopic procedure.  Yet, this procedure is not recommended for those who have muscle disease and are allergic to botox.

DO I DEFINITELY LOSE WEIGHT WITH STOMACH BOTOX?

As in no other bariatric treatment, stomach botox has no guarantee for weight loss. What is important here at this point is that the patient complies with the diet that will be prepared specifically for him/her after the procedure, and to make it a lifestyle, both of which will help him/her lose weight.

DOES BOTOX APPLIED TO MY STOMACH DISTRIBUTE INTO THE BODY?

Studies reported no systemic spread after the stomach botox procedure, and it was observed that it blocked the nerve conduction completely locally, thus delaying hunger.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM STOMACH BOTOX?

The patients are generally expected to lose 10 to 15% of their weight within 3 to 6 months after the stomach botox procedure. However, the amount of weight lost may vary from person to person, depending on age, gender, metabolic rate and lifestyle.

WHAT ARE THE POINTS THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER AFTER STOMACH BOTOX?

Acidic drinks and quickly consumed foods such as fast food are considered harmful after stomach botox procedure. Patients who are treated with Botox get hungry later and feel full with smaller portions.
