Beard/moustache transplantation, same as other transplantation methods, is a permanent solution to cover the hairless parts in the beard area. In beard/moustache transplantation, hair follicles taken from the donor area (hair, nape, arm or other areas with hair follicles) are transplanted to the beard area using the appropriate method. There are many reasons that require a beard/moustache transplant. Many reasons such as natural beard/moustache loss or lack, and injuries can lead people to apply for a beard/moustache transplantation. Although the nape grafts are generally used in this procedure, if there is not enough graft (hair follicle) in the nape, other body parts where healthy hair follicles exist can also be used as donor areas.
In beard/moustache transplantation, a transplant line is determined and the hair follicles are placed following this line. The beard/moustache line is determined by our physicians who are experts in this field, without disturbing the natural gestures and facial expressions on the person’s face. If the person has never had a beard or moustache growth yet and he is over the age of 20, this line is drawn by our specialist physicians according to the patient’s demands. The number of grafts to be transplanted is decided together with our patients and physicians. In beard/moustache transplantation, more grafts are used in the moustache and chin area, that are directly visible when viewed from the opposite side, while less grafts are used in the sideburns and remaining background beard areas in order not to disturb the natural appearance. FUE technique is generally used in beard/moustache transplantation:
Beard/Moustache Transplantation with FUE Method:
The FUE method, which is the most preferred method for beard/moustache transplantation today by our physicians, meets the expectations of the person to a great extent. During the detailed examination before the procedure, it is discussed in detail with the person about the appearance he would like to have after beard/mustache transplant, and the procedure is scheduled according to their demands. The procedure is performed under sedation; since general anesthesia is not used, the person can quickly recover after the procedure and return to his daily life. We suggest our patients to have a light breakfast on the day of operation. Following the necessary hygiene process by our expert staff, the patient is taken to the operation room. The procedure takes 3-6 hours on average depending on the number of grafts to be transplanted. First, the beard/mustache line is determined, and grafts are collected from the donor area as needed. There grafts are kept under suitable conditions until transplant. After the graft collection process is completed, channel opening starts in the transplant area. The channels opened are quite small and correspond to the number of collected grafts. After the channels are opened, transplant process starts, which is the last step. The grafts collected one by one are transplanted into the small channels one by one, taking into account the natural hair growing directions, and the process is completed. During all these stages, the patient does not feel any pain or discomfort, because he is under sedation but remains conscious. After the procedure, our patients can usually return to their daily lives after kept under observation in the hospital for 1-2 hours. However, after the control appointments, which are usually the day after the procedure, our patients can continue their lives much more comfortably.
